SHUTTER SPEED

Shutter speed is the part of the camera that controls the amount of movement in the resulting photographs. The longer the shutter is opened, the more light the fim in the camera is exposed to.

Use a slower shutter speed and pan the camera with the action going past you. To do panning shots I've started most of the times with 1/30 0f a second. The moving object is fairly sharp becuase I've moved the camera at the same speed as thee object, keeping it in the middle of the viewfinder and the backgrounds has an interesting movement, giving the impression of speed.

Shoot on an even slower shutter speet (1/4 of a second) and allow everything to move (action, camera, yourself) to end with anpicture of blurred movement, which can look stunning in colour.

On Digital Camera World I have found an intresting article, which explains the context between shutter speed and the appearance of the moving object. Click here to get to the article.
