First shot: evaluation, contact sheet and final picture

I have chosen Carl de Keyzer for my first influence. He has a lot of beautiful pictures, but this one shown below has inspired me the most in relation to our topic „view point“. I like the way he has captured the motion in this scene and also the fact that the people in the car are looking very happy - even if around them there is high water. De Keyzer made this with a Panning Shot. Panning Shots are made by swinging the camera with the object.

This picture make me think about time. The modern society and its technical possibilities allow us to cross bigger and bigger time zones - without moving.

In our society many people have problems with time. Everything has to be bigger, faster, better. But most of the people don’t have enough time. Stress and hectic rush are the results.

In my initial shot I tried to capture that fast movement of our society. All of the pictures I have made with a long exposure. Some of them are Panning Shots. The others are made without moving the camera. I didn’t use a tripod. This is why some of the pictures are blurred.

I have taken this pictures with a Nikon D200 in London during half term. I have also made some photos with a camera of the school (Canon), but it didn't work that well.

I think the pictures 1, 2, 4, 7 and 11 are showing the fast movement the most. I like them because you can see the speed of the individual objects.

To get a sharp picture when you are making Panning Shots, you have to move the camera at the same speed as the object. For example, in picture 9 I have moved the camera too fast and so everything in the picture got blurred.

Also picture 7 is a little bit blurred, but i think it is still one of the best pictures of this shot, because I also wanted to photograph something typical English, and which things are better than English buses or taxis in London?

Here is my final picture:
