Second shot: evaluation, contact sheet and final picture

For my second influence I have chosen Robert Capa.

Maybe the picture above is not one of his most known pictures, but I think it is capturing the time perfect. It was taken during an air raid alarm. Capa describes the picture with this words: ‚Running for shelter during an air raid alarm.‘ The picture was taken during the Spanish civil war in Barcelona, Spain in 1936.

Robert Capa is maybe best known for his (anti-) war reporting

This picture is also made by panning the camera.

For my second shot I wanted to capture something happier than a woman, who is running to hide herself from bombs. I went to Bournemouth an searched first some things in motion. One of my first ideas was taking pictures of other people, but I was too afraid of taking pictures of strangers that I decided to search another motive. Since when I was there during the Christmas time, I found a Santa Clause who went in the air with a unicycle from one side of a tightrope to the other side.

While I was trying to take a picture of the moving Santa Clause by panning the camera, I saw that most of the passing people haven’t even seen the Santa Clause up in the air. Most of them were rushing from one place to another to finish their Christmas shopping. I found that really sad, because particularly in this time everybody should slow down and enjoy this beautiful time of the year.

I’ve also taken pictures of other movement, but I wasn’t satisfied, because some of them didn’t worked well, for example picture no 7, because it was to bright to do panning shots (I’ve taken all the pictures with a slow shutter speed - the photo gets more brighter and finally it was overexposed).

The pictures which I have taken of the carousel worked quite well seen color technically, but I had no stative with me, so I used a wast basked instead, which you can see in picture no 4.

Initially I’ve decided to do panning shots and I couldn’t move my camera in the same speed of the carousel (picture 6) and so the pictures were not sharp. For this reason I decided to direct my attention back to the Santa up in the air, and went to the place where I have taken the picture of him to take better photos. I think, since Santa looks from the right side to the left side, the photo worked better if Santa is on the right side of the photo, but there shouldn’t be to see the house, like in picture 8, 10 and 12.

On the final outcome I have edited with Photoshop.  First I have deleted the tightrope with the Clone Stamp, then I have cropped it, then I have ...

The final result looked like this:
